K-9 Unit

"Take a bite out of crime."

K-9 Riggs, a Belgian Malinois, is a dual purpose Patrol/Narcotics Detector Dog born in Holland in 2009. He began working with Officer Cox in August 2010 when they both spent 10 weeks in Illinois State Police K-9 Academy where they successfully graduated in November 2010. Riggs is trained and certified through the Illinois State Police in Tracking, Building Searches, Area Searches, Article Searches, Obedience, Suspect Apprehension, Handler Protection, and Narcotics Detection. The Bradley Police K-9 Unit trains continuously to maintain the skills which are needed to "take a bite out of crime". K-9 Riggs has provided much needed assistance to State, County, and Local Jurisdictions throughout the Kankakee County area.

In addition to our primary role as a Law Enforcement support and patrol unit, K-9 Riggs and Officer Cox foster community support while attending public functions and demonstrations, which allows K-9 Riggs to meet thousands of people throughout the community.
